French was the USBA's delegate to the U.S. Olympic Committee Board of Directors from 1989-1994.
On the court, French was a member of the National Team for several years and was selected to compete in the 1987 World Championships. He won U.S. junior titles in 1977,1979, and 1982.
Badminton is a real family matter for French. His sisters, Ann and Linda, are two of the United States' top women players and are both members of the 1995 National Team. Ann is the USBA's representative to the USOC Athlete Advisory Council, and Linda competed on the first-ever U.S. Olympic badminton team in 1992.
French works as an account manager for Baxter Healthcare Corporation. He has a B.A. in marketing from Arizona State University (1984), where he also competed as a badminton scholarship athlete.
