Kuala Lumpur, May 21: Teen sensation Taufik Hidayat helped Indonesia smash their way to their 12th Thomas Cup title with a 3-0 over China in the final today at the Putra Stadium.

Taufik scored the winning point by defeating Japan Open winner Ji Xinpeng 15-9, 17-14.

The victory gave Indonesia their fourth consecutive title win after wresting the Cup back from Malaysia in 1994.

The millennium winners gave a polished display of courtcraft, powerplay and articulate playing skills to prevent China from completing a double, after the Chinese women took the Uber Cup title yesterday.

H. hendrawan ended the winning streak of China's new sensation Xia Xuanze by defeating the Chinese ace 11-15, 15-7, 15-9 in a 90-minute showdown.

Xuanze surprisingly showed inferior fitness which led to his defeat. He looked good in the first game and went on the win the game 15-11.

However, his tiredness crept in early in the second game. Hendrawan, sensing this stepped up pace to take the game easily at 15-7.

It was the same in the rubber game. Xuanze started off strongly but he again faded as the game progressed. The Chinese then had a endure what looked like a very bad line call while the score was 9-13.

It affected him mentally and Hendrawan had no problems in taking the game at 15-9 to give the Indons a 1-0 lead. It was sweet revenge as earlier this year Xuanze had beaten Hendrawn twice - at the All England and the Swiss Open.

New pair on trial Rexy Mainaky-Tony Gunawan took Indonesia closer to the title when they thrashed Yu Jinhao-Chen Qiqiu 15-9, 15-2.

The Chinese doubles pair who were moving very fast in the court found the shuttle placements of the tricky Indonesian pair a bit too difficult to match.

Taufik then did a marvelous job to down Xinpeng. As Taufik earned the winning point for Indonesia, all hell broke loose among the Indonesian supporters who celebrated with hug and kisses and Taufik was mobbed by team officials and his teammates.

Indonesian coach Hadi Nasri said he did not expect the win to come easy.

"I was thinking of a 3-2 win but not 3-0. I did not expect this," he said.

China's coach Li Yongbo however, said most of his players were first-timers to the Thomas Cup.

"They played well but the Indonesian players were fired up for the occasion. I congratulate them," he said.
