Kuala Lumpur, May 15: What was supposed to be an enticing tie to decide the Purple Group winner turned into an anti-climatic occassion when South Korea rested all their top players against China tonight.

South Korea fielded all the four reserves players to hand reigning champions China an easy 5-0 victory to emerge as the group winner.

China will now meet Indonesia while South Korea will play Denmark in the crossover semifinals.

China thus became the only team to maintain a 100 per cent record after the end of the preliminary round matches so far.

Both China and South Korea had been assured of their semifinal places earlier after achieving consecutive 5-0 wins over Sweden and Holland.

South Korea's decision to opt for a weak lineup was understandable as they are placed in the same group with powerhouse China.

It would have been better for their top players to be fully rested and be at full strength for the crucial semifinal tie against Denmark.

However, that hardly did justice to the spectators present at the venue tonight as China, fielding their best, virtually walked all over the South Koreans.

They only needed a total of 55 minutes to secure a 3-0 unbeatable lead from the first three singles match.

Current world no. 2 player Gong Zichao whipped South Korean reserve singles player Si Jin-sun, ranked a lowly 171st in the world, with a score of 11-3, 11-4 in 17 minutes.

The next two singles players for China, Dai Yun and Gong Ruina, also scored easy wins against their rivals.

Dai Yun defeated Jung Yeon-kyung 11-3, 11-2 while Gong Ruina won 11-3, 11-2 against Kim So-yeon.

Jin-sun later came out to join Lee Hyo-jung for the second doubles but it hardly mattered as they lost 5-15, 8-15 to China's Gao Ling-Qin Yiyuan.

Atlanta Games women doubles gold medallist Ge Fei-Gu Jun also made short work of their opponents to win 15-2, 15-6.
