Kuala Lumpur, May 15: There was only pride at stake in the Uber Cup Purple Group tie between Scandinavan countries Sweden and Holland.
Both are out of the running for the semifinals but were engaged in a different fight - to avoid finishing bottom in the group.
The Swedes were the clear favourites and they showed it by taking the first match when Margit Borg defeated Judith Meulendijks 0-11, 11-8, 11-7 in the first singles.
Karolina Ericsson defeated Karina De Wit 11-6, 11-7 in the second singles to put the Swedes 2-0 up.
But the Dutch women refused to give up. They pulled one back through the third singles when Lonneke Jansen beat Johanna Holgersson 11-5, 11-13, 11-3 to reduce the deficit to 1-2.
Holland then leveled the score when Nicole Van Hooren-Lotte Jonathans beat Johana Persson-Anna Lundin 15-9, 15-13.
In the deciding second doubles, Holland surprisingly fielded singles ace Judith.
Judith together with Lonneke Jansen , the first and second singles combination defeated Margit Borg-Johanna Holgersson 15-2, 15-8, for an upset 3-2 win.
