Kuala Lumpur, May 14: South Korea followed China into the Uber Cup semifinals from the Purple Group when they defeated Sweden 5-0 at the Putra Stadium tonight.
However, South Korea will have to play against China in the last group match tomorrow to decide who will top the group.
Margit Borg, elevated to the first singles in place of the injured Marina Andrievskaya, gave a worthy performance when she took world no. 11 Kim Ji-hyun to rubber games.
However, Borg eventually tired out after fighting for 52 minutes and lost with a 6-11, 13-12, 11-7 score.
The South Koreans were hardly troubled after that and achieved comfortable wins in the rest of the matches. Lee Kyung-won put South Korea two up by beating Karolina Ericsson
11-2, 11-7.
Kim Kyeung-ran then secured the winning point against Johanna Holgersson 11-7, 11-0.
It was left to the two South Korean women's doubles pairs to do their job and they did not take long to achieve victory.
Lee Hyo-jung-Yim Kyung-jin won 15-8, 15-9 against Johanna Persson-Lundin Anna in the first doubles.
Margit combined with Holgersson to play in the second doubles for Sweden but proved to be no match for South Korea's new pair Lee Kyung-won-Chung Jae-hee, losing 5-15, 7-15 in only 23 minutes.
