Kuala Lumpur, May 11: Denmark whipped Malaysia into submission with a 4-1 win in the first match of the Uber Cup at the Stadium Putra here today.

The victory was marred by the loss suffered by World No. 10 pair Ann-Lou Jorgensen-Mette Schjoldager who lost 15-8, 15-1 to Malaysia's second doubles pair Sandy Chor-Ang Li Peng.

However, the Danes had already secured an unassailable 3-0 lead through the first and second singles and the first doubles.

In the first singles, Malaysia's Ng Mee Fen was outclassed by World No.1 Camilla Martin. Losing 0-11, 4-11.

Helene Kirkegaard-Rikke Olsen gave Denmark a 2-0 lead after shrugging off a poor start to beat Lim Pek Siah-Joanne Quay 15-9, 15-4.

In the second doubles Wong Miew Kheng made World No. 8 Mette Sorensen work hard in the first set, losing out narrowly 9-11, but the Dane was too good in the second, winning easily after conceding just one point.

Then came the giantic effort from Sandy-Li Peng, showing good defensive and attacking play to tame Jorgensen-Schjoldager.

Woon Sze Mei became Denmark's fourth victim when she lost 3-11, 4-11 to Mette Pedersen.

Malaysian team manager Lim Teong Kiat said he could not ask for more than what his shuttlers did today.

Danish team manager Kenneth larsen was not satisfied with the overall score as he had expected Denmark to whitewash Malaysia.

"Then again, you know, it's not easy to play against the host team. many things can happen. I wanted to have a 5-0 win because it could go a long way to help us if there are ties after all the groups matches," said the Dane.
