Kuala Lumpur, May 11 (AFP): World number one Camilla Martin kicked off a comfortable 4-1 opening victory for Denmark against outclassed hosts Malaysia.
The Danes never looked back after Martin breezed past Ng Mee Fen 11-0, 11-4 in the first rubber of their Pink Group encounter.
Denmark, who face Indonesia and Japan in their remaining pool matches, were rarely troubled and made certain of the tie when Helene Kirkegaard and Rikke Olsen beat Lim Pek Siah and Joanna Quay Sweeling 11-0, 11-4 and Mette Sorensen edged Wong Miew Kheng 11-9, 11-1 in the third rubber.
"It's never easy to play the home team but we knew we were well-prepared and we could beat them.It was important for us to win our matches by as big a margin as possible -- it might make all the difference for who we play in the semi-final," coach Kenneth Larsen said.
Denmark led 3-0 with the remaining two rubbers of the best-of-five match to be played later tonight.
The Purple Group, which includes Sweden, China, South Korea and the Netherlands, gets underway Friday.
