The UBC Faculty/Staff/Grad Student BADMINTON Club will begin play Wednesday Oct. 4 6:45--8:15 p.m. in the new Student Recreation Centre, behind the Student Union Building at UBC. Play is also scheduled for Fridays 6:45--8:15 p.m. although a few of the Friday sessions will be cancelled due to tournaments. There are 12 courts and players from beginner to advanced are welcome. In the past there has been a $15/year membership fee, $2 drop-in, Yonex birds provided, but the details have yet to be worked out for this year. Since we have 12 courts, please let other faculty, staff and grad student badminton players know about the club. In addition, undergrad and non-student (spouses, friends, etc) drop-in guests are welcome when there is room, the non-student players only if sponsored by a faculty/staff/grad member. (In fact, with 12 courts perhaps the AMS constituted badminton club and the Faculty/Staff/Grad badminton club could merge, but that is yet to be discussed, plus the SRC seemed to want to promote faculty and staff involvement and build the numbers coming out. So even if you are a beginner or haven't played in decades, come on out. The new gym looks and feels very good, reminds me of some of UofC's fine post-Olympic facilities, well-designed, though I haven't actually played there yet.) Also, Leslie Ratkay is maintaining an informal mailing list to inform people of changes/cancellations. If you would like to be added to that list send him an e-mail message. ********* UPDATED 5OCT95 ****** posted to alt.sports.badminton by David Dalton -
