** This NEW SHUTTLENWS report is presented by YANG YANG Badminton Products and their Ontario (Canada) agents - SHAH Enterprises **

August 9, 1999 (NEW SHUTTLENWS) - Badminton powerhouses Indonesia and Malaysia will once again tangle for the men's team gold medal at the South East Asian Games, following their usual semifinal victories today in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei, site of the twentieth holding of the Olympic-style multisports competition. Indonesian whipped Singapore 5 matches to none, while Malaysia beat Thailand 3-0 (the Malaysians and Thais agreed not to pla= y the last two matches).

Indonesia has dominated the past SEA Games badminton men's team competiti= ons but with Indonesia keeping most of their name players like Heryanto Arbi, Hendrawan, Ricky Subagja, Rexy Mainaky, and Chandra Wijaya at home and fielding their up-and-coming players, Malaysia has an even chance of taking the men's team gold.

In the women's team event, top-seed Indonesia and Thailand moved into the finals with semifinal victories earlier today. Indonesia crushed Vietnam 5-0, while Thailand beat Malaysia 3-1 in the closest contest of the day (bot= h teams chose to abandon the meaningless last match after the Thais had scored their clinching third victory).
