U.S. Nationals: Kevin Han "Three-peats"

April 5, 1999 (NEW SHUTTLENWS) - Kevin Han underlined his dominance of the American men's singles event when he captured his third consecutive national title at the U.S. national badminton championships held this weekend at the Orange County Badminton Club in southern California. The Shanghai-born Han defeated former Malaysian national player Andy Chong (Chong Weng Kai) in Sunday's final 15-12 and 15-5.

Han also took top honors in the men's doubles event. He paired up with Alex Liang, a former Chinese national team member now residing in the San Diego area and the duo powered their way to the gold medal, dropping only one game enroute to the title.

In women's singles, defending champion Yeping Tang retained her title with a hard-fought 5-11, 11-9 and 13-10 victory over Cindy Shi in Sunday's title match.

Tang also captured gold in the women's doubles and mixed doubles events.
