IRELAND: WATT TAKES HIS SEVENTH NATIONAL, TOPPING HIS SIXTH

February 8, 1999 (NEW SHUTTLENWS) - Michael Watt yesterday captured his seventh national men's singles crown at the Irish badminton championships in Dublin. Watt swept thru the tournament and took the title without losing a single game. In yesterday's final, Watt defeated Niall Tierney.

Bruce Topping also continued to be a dominating force in Irish badminton. He won his sixth mixed doubles national title this past weekend. In the final, Topping and partner Jayne Plunkett upset top seeds Donald O'Halloran and Elaine Kiely.
