November 24, 1998 (NEW SHUTTLENWS) - Denmark defeated China 2 matches to 1 in a friendly exhibition-cum-training men's singles team tie at the Chinese national badminton center in Beijing this past Sunday.

Peter Gade, the world number one from Denmark, beat Dong Jiong in a thriller of an opening match 15-10, 6-15 and 15-13. Dong was in command late in the decider 13-11 but Gade was able to make up the difference and win the match.

Kenneth Jonassen then defeated Luo Yigang 17-15, 6-15 and 15-12 to clinch the friendly for Denmark.

In the third match, Sun Jun of China beat Poul-Erik Hoyer 15-9 and 15-6.

The Danes were training for the five-star Hong Kong Open scheduled to begin tomorrow while the Chinese players were preparing for the Asian Games which starts in early December.

None of the top Chinese players are entered in the Hong Kong tournament.
