DENMARK: DANES BEAT CHINA IN TEAM EXHIBITION

October 11, 1998 (NEW SHUTTLENWS) - A team made up of Denmark's top badminton players defeated China 4-1 in an exhibition team event held in Svendborg, Denmark yesterday.

World number one men's singles player Peter Gade beat Chinese number three Dong Jiong 15-10 and 15-3, while European women's singles champion Camilla Martin lost to world champion Ye Zhaoying 6-11 and 5-11.

In the men's doubles match, Denmark's Jens Eriksen and Jesper Larsen defeated China's number two pair Zhang Jun and Zhang Wei 15-7, 14-17 and 15-7.

In women's doubles, the Danish pair of Marlene Thomsen and Rikke Olsen beat 1997 world championship silver medalists Qin Yiyuan and Tang Hetian 15-13, 5-15 and 15-5, while in mixed doubles, Michael Sogaard and Rikke Olsen were victorious over the scratch pairing of Zhang Jun and Qin Yiyuan 15-5 and 15-12.

The exhibtion team event was a tuneup for the Danish Open badminton tourney being held in Vejle from October 13 to 18.
