GRAND PRIX FINALS: GE AND GU WIN WOMEN'S DOUBLES CROWN

December 14, 1997 (NEW SHUTLENWS) - World champions Ge Fei and Gu Jun of China cemented their reputation as the best women's doubles pair in the world with a one-sided victory over teammates Qin Yiyuan and Tang Yongshu this evening in the championship match of the World Grand Prix Finals badminton tournament at the Senayan Stadium in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The world champions were barely troubled in the first game, winning at 15-1. They let down a bit in the second game and allowed Qin and Tang into the match, but then clamped down to take the game and the championship at 15-8.

The victory was worth US$22,800 for the world champions.
