March 21, 1997 (NEW SHUTTLENWS) - Rashid Sidek was injured in the third game
of his men's singles round-of-16 match with Peter Rasmussen of Denmark
yesterday at the Swiss Open badminton tournament in Basel. The second-seeded
Sidek was ahead 10-7 when the Malaysian player got injured and was unable to
continue.

retired).
In another round-of-16 match, Sun Jun of China repeated his mastery over
Heryanto Arbi of Indonesia,12-15, 15-8 and 15-10. Sun had also beaten Arbi
in the semifinal stage of the All-England Open last Friday.

qualifying for the world championships in May. Gade beat Ardy 15-10, 9-15
and 15-8.
In mixed doubles, the Indonesian experiment of pairing Trikus Heryanto with
Eliza seems to be working. Tri and Eliza defeated the top seeds Michael
Sogaard and Rikke Olsen in a round-of-16 match 12-15, 15-4 and 15-10.
The new combination will have another testing match today when they play
All-England champions Liu Yong and Ge Fei in the quarterfinals.
In women's doubles, second seeds Lisbet Stuer-Lauridsen and Marlene Thomsen
were unable to play their round-of-16 match with Koreans Jang Hye Ock and
