INDIAN OPEN: HOYER'S GEAR IS MISSING
February 12, 1997 (NEW SHUTTLENWS) - A source at the four-star Indian Open
badminton tournament being played this week in New Delhi reports that current
Olympic champion Poul-Erik Hoyer-Larsen of Denmark, the men's singles top
seed, may have to compete with some borrowed gear. The Danish player who has
recently taken up residence in Milton Keynes, England arrived safely in India
but his luggage did not.
Hoyer's bags were apparently left behind at London's Heathrow airport by
the airline that the Danish ace flew to India on. The airline company has
put a tracer on the missing luggage and Hoyer hopes to get his gear in time
for his tough opening match against former All-England champion and 1992
Olympic silver medalist Ardy Wiranata of Indonesia.
