SUSANTI AND KUSUMA TO WED IN FEBRUARY

January 16, 1997 (New Shuttlenws) - Sources close to the Indonesian badminton team now competing at the Japan Open in Tokyo report that 1992 Olympic Games badminton gold medal winners Susi Susanti and Alan Budi Kusuma will be married in grand fashion on February 23 in Jakarta.

More than 1200 guests have been invited to the wedding, including top government and badminton officials. Indonesian President Suharto is expected to be in attendance to honor Indonesia's first Olympic gold medalists on their wedding day.

Many more Indonesian badminton fans are expected to come to the wedding ceremony as onlookers and well-wishers.

Susanti and Kusuma will have a short honeymoon after the wedding but intend to compete at the All-England Open in mid-March.

The same sources also report that Susanti and Kusuma will continue to play competitively on the world scene for one to two more years and that Susanti may play more women's doubles, or alternate singles and doubles, playing doubles in one tournament and singles in the next. They have no plans of playing mixed doubles together competitively.
