UNSEEDED WANG AND LU TAKE WORLD JUNIOR MIXED CROWN

November 23, 1996 (New Shuttlenws) - Unseeded Chinese players Wang Wei
and Lu Ying capped a stunning run through the world's best junior mixed
doubles badminton players when they defeated compatriots Cheng Rui and
Gao Ling in the title match of the 1996 badminton world junior championships
at Silkeborg in Denmark tonight.
Wang and Lu outplayed the middle-seeded Cheng and Gao 15-4 and 15-10 to
claim the world crown.
In the semifinals, Wang and Lu upended 3-4 seeds Rizal and Neneng
Setiawati from Indonesia with surprising ease 15-5 and 15-1. Wang and Lu
had put out the second seeds Ove Svejstrup and Britta Andersen of Denmark
in the quarterfinals 16-17, 15-11 and 15-9.
Cheng and Gao had beaten fellow seeds and compatriots Zhu Feng and Zhou
Mi in their semifinal match 15-8 and 17-14.
