ERICSSON, BERG LEAD EUROPEAN CIRCUIT STANDINGS
by Mike Grossman
November 19, 1996 (New Shuttlenws) - Heading into this week's badminton
Scottish Open in Glasgow, Swedish player Daniel Ericsson sits on top of
the European Badminton Union 1996-1997 rankings for men's singles, while
Tanja Berg of Denmark is the women's singles leader.
Johan Tholinsson and Henrik Andersson of Sweden share the top placing
among men's doubles players while Ann-Lou Jorgensen of Denmark is the best
thus far among women doubles players. Jorgensen and Jonas Rasmussen of
Denmark lead the mixed doubles players.
(Unlike the International Badminton Federation doubles rankings which
are by pair, EBU doubles rankings are by individual player and recognizes
a player's accomplishment in a tournament event regardless of partner.
(Also, EBU tournament results are incorporated into the IBF rankings with
an appropriate lower weighting. They are not included in the Grand Prix
standings).
