MARTIN TAKES HONG OPEN OPEN WOMEN'S CROWN
Permadi Wins Second Major Title In A Row
by Mike Grossman (from a report filed by YANG YANG Badminton Equipment)
November 10, 1996 (new SHuttlenws) - Camilla Martin of Denmark today
won the women's singles title at the badminton Hong Kong Open when she
defeated top-seed Mia Audina of Indonesia 11-8 and 11-6.
Martin was seeded second but had not been touted as having a good chance
against an in-form Audina. She proved the pundits wrong today as she was
ready for Audina, specially the Indonesian girl's strong (for women's
singles) smash attacks and unorthodox round-the-head shots.
In men's singles, Fung Permadi of Chinese Taipei scored his second major
championship victory in a row when he banked on his experience to beat
the dangerous and upset-conscious Indonesian tyro Salim in two tightly
contested games 15-12 and 15-10.
Permadi had won the China Open men's singles title last week in Dong Guan,
Guangdong.
