World Badminton Academy Deadline Also Set; AGM Date Changed

October 3, 1996 (New Shuttlenws) - The International Badminton Federation
has set October 19 as the deadline for the submission of official entries
to their World Junior Championships.
The tournament is scheduled to be held from November 19 to November 24
in Silkeborg, Denmark.
Official entries must be submitted by the national badminton associations
to the badminton federation offices in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire in
the United Kingdom.
The federation has also set November 30, 1996 as the deadline for the
submission of applications for the 1997 World Badminton Academy. They
are asking national associations from developing and emerging countries
in the sport to apply for places at the two-week intensive training
camp for their high-potential young players aged 16 to 23.
National associations from these countries are also invited to send in
applications for their potential national coaches.
The World Badminton Academy is an annual training activity of the
badminton federation intended to assist in the development of the sport
in the less-successful badminton countries. Coaches from the top
badminton nations conduct the training activities.
The 1997 World Badminton Academy will be held at two sites in the
August-September timeframe. One site will be the Shanghai Badminton
Institute in China where players and future national coaches from the
Asia-Pacific area will train. A second site for European and Pan-American
players and coaches is still to be selected.
In another badminton-related development, the federation has announced
a change of date for their 1997 annual general meeting. This meeting will
now be held on Sunday, May 25 in Glasgow, Scotland instead of Friday,
May 23.
The change had to be made because the original date conflicted with an
important International Olympic Committee meeting.
