North Bay League (NBL) Badminton 2025

NBL (North Bay League) is a member of NCS (CIF's North Coast Section) that includes the SF Bay Area as well as Marin and Sonoma Counties. NBL badminton for 2023 comprises 10 schools: Analy, Elsie Allen, Maria Carillo, Montgomery, Santa Rosa, Windsor, Healdsburg, Piner, Roseland Collegiate Prep, and Roseland University Prep.

As of 2024 Oak includes Analy, Maria Carillo, Montgomery, Piner, Santa Rosa. Redwood includes Elsie Allen, Healdsburg, RCP, RUP, Windsor.
As of 2025 Montgomery and Analy move down to NCS Division 2.

League Competition

Both coaches at each match please send in results (all matches including JV and exhibition) directly after meets. Any format is fine- email/mms /hardcopy dropped at Stan's house or even FAX if you really want to (ask if you don't know where). Easiest (probably): point your phone at the final scoresheet, snap a picture, and email or text it to me (stan@worldbadminton.com). Note that most matches start at 4:30 and most gyms do not open before 3:30. Healdsburg: gym opens at 4:30 and matches start at 5. Please do NOT arrive earlier as school will still be in session. RCP: gym opens 5:30 and matches start at 6.

Post-Season

For Post Season, Oak and Redwood Divisions are replaced by NCS Division 1 (Maria Carillo, Santa Rosa and Windsor) and Division 2 (Analy, Elsie Allen, Healdsburg, Montgomery, Piner, RCP, RUP)
Selection of NCS team - tournaments played to completion. If all schools qualify per NCS rules, top 3 DIV1 and top 5 DIV2 players/teams go on to NCS. Round Robin events are decided using USAB standard (matches, then games, then points). NOTE that these tournaments are to select the players going on to NCS and are NOT the place for others to get court time.
- Monday, May 5- Seeding meeting for NBL singles tournament. Format depends upon the number of entries but will likely be Round Robin or Double Elimination. Also selection of All League team, 5:30 PM, Room 15, Santa Rosa High. Bring names and season records. (entries)(issues raised)
- All League Team - selected by coaches based on performance during the season
- Tuesday, May 6- NBL Singles Tournament. 4:30 PM at Santa Rosa for DIV1 and Piner for DIV2. Gym opens 4:00 for warmup. NOTE: players who do not qualify for singles may then enter doubles or mixed doubles.

- History -
  - Starting in 2012 NCS and hence NBL split into Division I and Division II based strictly on school enrollment.
  - Starting in 2015 NBL Division II schools moved into SCL while Division I schools stayed with NBL. This transition is highlighted by the Press Democrat in a 12 March 2015 article.
  - For the 2019 season SCL is dissolved and the former NBL Division 1 and 2 structure is resurrected modeled initially after the NCS Div1 and Div 2, but modified to emphasize team strength rather than just school enrollment. NBL 1 (aka "Oak") badminton comprises Analy, Maria Carillo, Montgomery, Santa Rosa, and Windsor. NBL 2 (aka "Redwood") badminton comprises Elsie Allen, Healdsburg, Piner, Roseland University Prep, and Roseland Collegiate Prep. Additionally Petaluma and Casa Grande leave NBL and join VVAL.
  - As of January 2019, Oak and Redwood are merged into a single NBL League since Elsie Allen and RCP teams are disbanded.
  - January 2020: Elsie Allen and RCP rejoin and Oak/Redwood divisions are resurrected
  - April 2021: due to COVID several schools are not fielding teams so NBL is consolidated
  - January 2022: NBL remains consolidated, though now with 10 teams
  - February 2023: Oak and Redwood Divisions are back and are the same as 2019 except Analy and Piner are swapped.
  - January 2024: Oak and Redwood continue with Analy and Windsor swapped.
