SITE: Municipal Gymnasium,Balboa Park in San Diego, CA

(5 minutes from San Diego Airport, next to the World Famous San Diego Zoo)

SPONSORSHIP:

YONEX CORPORATION is providing Tournament Shuttles: Mavis 300 yellow,

logo t-shirts for players, and coaches.

OTHER LOGISTICS:

Lunch delivery service will be provided. Coaches will be given menus from which money should be collected and orders will be accepted. San Diego Badminton Supply will provide on-site stringing services during the Championships.

HOST REGION RESPONSIBILITIES:

VISITING REGIONS RESPONSIBILITIES (RESPONSIBILITY OF LOCAL REGIONS NO SCHOOL FUNDS)

  1. EACH REGION REGULATES AND NOMINATES RESPECTIVE TEAM
  2. EACH TEAM CONSISTS OF:

6 girls + 1 female alternate

6 boys + 1 male alternate

1 head coach, 2 alternates

  1. ALL PLAYERS MUST BE GRADUATING SENIOR
  2. NO UNDERCLASSMEN PARTICIPATE IN COMPETITION
  3. COACHES ARE TO BE SELECTED FROM REGION’S CURRENT YOUTH PROGRAMS
  4. TEAM ENTRY DUE JUNE 2ND
  5. PLAYERS MAY PLAY NO MORE THAN TWO EVENTS

COMPETITION FORMAT

  1. CO-ED TEAMS
  2. CONSOLATION (3/4 PLAYOFF) TOURNAMENT
  3. COMPETITION EVENTS: SINGLES, DOUBLES, MIXED DOUBLES
  4. EACH REGION PLAYS ONE TEAM MATCH A DAY. FINALS AND PLAYOFF WILL BE PLAYED ON SECOND DAY. EACH TEAM MATCH CONSISTS OF 19 INDIVIDUAL MATCHES.

  1. 1ST & 2ND GIRLS’ SINGLES (round robin)
  2. 1ST & 2ND BOYS’ SINGLES (round robin)
  3. 1ST & 2ND GIRLS’ DOUBLES (round robin)
  4. 1ST & 2ND BOYS’ DOUBLES (round robin)
  5. 1ST, 2ND & 3RD MIXED DOUBLES (straight across)
  6. NO ATHLETE SHALL PLAY ALL 3 EVENTS - MAXIMUM : 2 EVENTS

  1. ENTRY INFORMATION FOR EACH TEAM IS TO BE COMPILED AND FAXED TO MIKE WALKER at 760.633.1996 OR EMAILED TO "sunny@badminton.net" BY JUNE 2, 1998
  2. ENTRY MUST INCLUDE ROSTER OF 12 - 14 ATHLETES WITH THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION: LAST & FIRST NAME, AGE, M/F, EVENT(S) ENTERED, RANKING
  3. ALL SINGLES & DOUBLES ARE TO BE RANKED 1-2. LIST ALL POSSIBLE COMBINATIONS BY ABILITY
  4. ORDER OF RANKING AND COMBINATIONS MAY NOT BE CHANGED DURING THE TWO-DAY COMPETITION

DRAW

  1. WILL BE HELD AT RANDOM ON 10:30AM, SATURDAY, JUNE 6TH
  2. NO TEAMS WILL BE SEEDED
  3. SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA (SOUTHERN SECTIONS DIVISIONS 1 & 2) TEAMS WILL BE PLACED ON OPPOSITE HALVES OF THE DRAW

COMPETITION RULES

TEAM MEETING (10:30AM)

ONE HOUR PRIOR TO START OF MATCH, TEAMS WILL MEET WITH TOURNAMENT DIRECTOR, UMPIRE & COACHES. STARTING LINE-UPS ARE TO BE EXCHANGED AND PRESENTED TO TOURNAMENT DIRECTOR & OPPONENT

UMPIRE WILL REVIEW COMPETITION RULES

WARMUP

COURTS WILL BE AVAILABLE ONE HOUR PRIOR TO MATCH

PRACTICE SHUTTLES WILL BE PROVIDED

USA BADMINTON RULES WILL BE ENFORCED

SUBSTITUTION & INJURY/EQUIPMENT TIME OUT

  1. SUBSTITUTE (ALTERNATE) PLAYER MAY BE USED IF AN INJURY OCCURS DURING WARM-UP. NO SUBSTITUTIONS MAY BE MADE ONCE MATCH BEGINS
  2. INJURY TIME OUT: PLAY MAY BE SUSPENDED FOR ONE 10 MINUTE PERIOD DURING A MATCH. A SECOND INJURY TIME OUT DURING SAME MATCH WILL RESULT IN AN IMMEDIATE DEFAULT
  3. UNIFORM TIME OUT: NOT TO EXCEED 5 MINUTES

 

MATCH & GAME SCORING

  1. EACH MATCH CONSISTS OF BEST OR 3 REGULATION GAMES
  2. ONE MINUTE COACHING TIME-OUT IS ALLOWED ON COURT BETWEEN 1ST & 2ND GAME. ONLY 2 COACHES MAY COACH ONE PLAYER/TEAM AT A TIME ON COURT. UMPIRES MONITOR TIME.
  3. FIVE-MINUTE OFF-COURT COACHING MAY OCCUR WHEN TEAMS HAVE SPLIT THE FIRST TWO GAMES
  4. EACH MATCH WON OR DEFAULTED COUNTS AS ONE TEAM POINT
  5. 19 MATCHES COMPLETE THE TEAM MATCH. FIRST TEAM TO WIN 10 TEAM POINTS IS THE WINNER OF THE MATCH
  6. ALL MATCHES ARE TO BE PLAYED EVEN IF A TEAM REACHES 10 POINTS BEFORE TEAM MATCH IS FINISHED

OFFICIALS

  1. ONE UMPIRE WILL BE ASSIGNED TO EACH MATCH
  2. SERVICE JUDGES & LINE JUDGES ASSIGNED ONLY WHEN PLAYERS REQUEST, NOT COACHES.
  3. EACH TEAM WILL PROVIDE ONE LINE JUDGE WHEN REQUESTED

REST TIME BETWEEN MATCHES

  1. IF A PLAYER HAS TO PLAY BACK-TO BACK MATCHES, OTHER MATCHES MAY BE CALLED OUT OF ORDER TO SPEED UP MATCH PLAY
  2. A 15 MINUTE REST-TIME WILL BE GRANTED TO PLAYERS PLAYING BACK TO BACK MATCHES.

THIS IS NOT A CIF SANCTIONED EVENT.

SAN DIEGO’S BALBOA PARK IS CONVENIENTLY LOCATED NEAR THE AIRPORT, THE ZOO, AND SEA WORLD. LARGEST SELECTION OF LODGING IS IN SAN DIEGO’S "HOTEL CIRCLE" VICINITY.
