OLYMPICS: BADMINTON - DAY 7 EVENING RESULTS INDONESIANS TAKE MEN'S DOUBLES BRONZE - CHINESE WOMEN MEDAL July 30, 1996 (D.Shuttlenws) - Indonesians Antonius and Denny Kantono defeated Soo Beng Kiang and Tan Kim Her of Malaysia in a playoff match this evening at the Atlanta Olympic Games to take the bronze medal in the men's doubles event. The Indonesians and Malaysians battled over three games for the honor of being an Olympic medalist with Antonius and Kantono finally emerging as the winners. In the other playoff match this evening, the Chinese women's doubles pair of Qin Yiyuan and Tang Yongshu beat Helene Kirkegaard and Rikke Olsen of Denmark also in three games to become the bronze medalists in their event. The finals for the men's and women's doubles take place on Wednesday with the top two pairs in the world rankings battling each other in both events. Rexy Mainaky and Ricky Subagja of Indonesia, top seeds and world number ones, will play Cheah Soon Kit and Yap Kim Hock of Malaysia for the men's doubles gold medal. Cheah and Yap are the second seeds and world number twos. Gil Young Ah and Jang Hye Ock of Korea will face Ge Fei and Gu Jun of China for the honors in women's doubles. The Koreans are the top seeds but are currently ranked behind Ge and Gu in the world rankings at number two. The Chinese women are seeded second.
