CANADIAN NETWORK TO SHOW OLYMPIC BADMINTON FINALS July 13, 1996 (D.Shuttlenws) - The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation or CBC has in its Olympic broadcast schedule a planned telecast of the badminton men's singles, women's singles and mixed doubles finals on August 1. The coverage is to be on both English and French CBC stations. Actual broadcast time is dependent on the other Olympic Games events that are scheduled for the day as well as the progress of Canadian medal hopefuls in those events, particularly the men's decathlon, women's 800 meter wheelchair race and men's 1500 meter wheelchair race. The men's and women's doubles finals on July 31 may also be telecast on the French stations; however, this has not been confirmed. The CBC cable news service, NEWSWORLD, will also be showing extensive highlights of the finals during its Olympic news specials at noon to 12:45 pm, 6:00pm to 6:45 pm, 9:00pm to 9:45pm and 11:30pm to midnight. (Because CBC holds the broadcast rights to the Atlanta Olympics for Canada, they are allowed to show longer highlights than other Canadian networks and are entitled to show them earlier). The American TV rightsholder - NBC - does not have any badminton telecast scheduled but badminton enthusiasts in the United States of America with access to a satellite TV system should be able to catch the CBC English, French and NEWSWORLD coverage. Technical details as to satellite location and transponder should be available in most satellite TV publications. COPYRIGHT 1996 by D.Shuttlenws@genie.com.
