CHINA AND INDONESIA TO CLASH IN UBER CUP FINAL HONG KONG, May 23, 1996 (D.Shuttlenws) - The Chinese and Indonesian women's badminton teams today won their semifinal ties to set up another clash of the badminton titans in Saturday night's finals at the world women's team championships (the Uber Cup) in Hong Kong. China beat Denmark 5 matches to none, while Indonesia defeated Korea 4 - 1. In the Chine/Denmark tie. Ye Zhaoying came back from a 1-6 deficit in her first game against Camilla Martin of Denmark to beat the Dane 11-8 11-3. Ge Fei and Gu Jun also had to come back in the first women's doubles match. They were down 9-13 in the first game and had to scramble to pass Helene Kirkegaard and Rikke Olsen 17-14. Ge and Gu easily won the second 15-3. Wang Chen clinched the final spot for China when she beat Ann Sondergard 11-0 11-8. Qin Yiyun and Tang Yongshu beat Lotte Olsen and Ann Jorgensen 15-6 18-15, and Zhang Ning bested Mette Pedersen 11-5 11-2 to finsh the tie. In the evening semifinal, Indonesian Susi Susanti vanquished a nervous and off-form Bang Soo Huyn 11-7 11-0 to give her country a 1-0 lead over Korea. Eliza and Zelin Rosiana surprised Gil Young Ah and Jang Hye Ock with their quickness and power at the net and their focused attack on the teenager Jang 15-2 17-16. Mia Audina wasted match point in her second game against a determined Kim Ji Hyun. It took her a third game before she could clinch the tie for Indonesia. The Audina-Kim scoreline was 11-6 11-12 11-4. Finarshi and Lili Tampi may it 4-0 for Indonesia with a hard fought win over Kim Mee Hyang and Kim Shin Young 10-15 15-6 13-7.
