THOMAS AND UBER CUPS START TODAY

May 16, 1996 (D.SHuttlenws) - The world men's and women's team
championships finals begin today at the Queen Elizabeth Stadium in Hong
Kong.

Known as the Thomas and Uber Cups, these team championships are two of
the most prestigious events in badminton and are very hotly contested,
specially by the badminton powerhouse nations of Asia.

The championships are being telecast throughout Asia on the Star cable
network as well as Radio-TV Malaysia and Radio-TV Indonesia.

Fans of the sport outside of Asia will have to be content with Internet
coverage from the Malaysian newspaper STAR (http://www.jaring.my/star)
who are providing excellent reports in English with a team of 4
reporters on-site in Hong Kong.
