May 30, 1997 (NEW SHUTTLENWS) - China's women singles players stamped their brand on this edition of the world badminton championships being held in Glasgow, Scotland by eliminating Indonesia's Susi Susanti and Mia Audina in the quarterfinal stage today. The defeat of the two top Indonesian women's singles players guarantees China a sweep of all four medals in the women's singles event.

Second seed Gong Zhichao showed Susi Susanti the exit door with her dynamic rallying and slice drop shots that found the floor just beyond even the legendary Susanti's reach. Gong raced to a 9-2 lead in the first, outrallying Susanti. The Indonesian scored some points to climb to 5 but Gong's play and lead was too much. Gong won the first 11-5.

In the second, it was more dynamic rallying from the fleet-footed Gong and more sliced shots beyond Susanti's reach. Gong easily won the second 11-2.

In a battle of world junior champions, the sixth seeded Wang Chen took advantage of the sluggish and erratic play of the third-seeded Mia Audina to win 11-6 and 11-4.

In the other women's singles quarterfinal matches, both all-Chinese affairs, top seed Ye Zhaoying defeated Dai Yun 11-7 and 11-6, and Han Jingna beat Zhang Ning 11-8 and 11-7.

Ye will play Wang in one of tomorrow's semifinals and Han will face Gong in the other.
