by Mike Grossman (from information supplied by Sheila Patel at the
World Junior Championships Press Desk)
November 23, 1996 (New Shuttlenws) - Two Chinese female doubles teams
won the semifinals today at the badminton world junior championships at
Silkeborg in Denmark to assure China of at least one world junior title
this year.
The middle-seeded Lu Ying and Zhan Xubin beat the top-seeds from Denmark,
Britta Andersen and Jane Jacoby, 15-7 and 15-12, while the second-seeds
Gao Ling and Yang Wei defeated Koreans Chung Jae Hee and Yin Kyung Jin
12-15, 15-10 and 15-1.
The loss by Andersen and Jacoby ended the host country's hopes for a
world junior title. The two were the only Danes and only non-Asians to
survive into the semifinal stage.
