The men's doubles event was the only one to escape Indonesia as the Malaysian tandem of Cheah Soon Kit and Yap Kim Hock, fresh from their World Grand Prix Finals triumph in Singapore in late November, defeated world champions Rexy Mainaky and Ricky Subagdja of Indonesia in the event championship match. In the men's team competition, the Burmese side put in a surprising performance and unexpectedly snatched a bronze medal from Singapore, the usual bronze medalists together with Thailand. In the women's singles event, Somharuthai Jaroensiri of Thailand made the most of the absence of Indonesian prodigy Mia Audina to make her way to the event final and to a silver medal placing behind Olympic champion Susi Susanti. Audina was withdrawn from the Indonesian contingent after suffering an injury at the recent World Grand Prix Finals tournament. =END= As posted to the badminton mailing list by d.shuttlenws@genie.com
