The first Badminton Canada Grand Prix Tournament of the 1995-96 season was
held September 1-3 at the Glencoe Club in Calgary.
A few of Canada's top men were absent but all of the top women were competing.
Denyse Julien won all three events but was pushed in the ladies' singles
final to three games by Doris Piche who has returned to competition after
being out last season with a knee injury.
19 year old Jean-Francois Mercier (Doris' nephew) was a surprise finalist
and played well in a losing effort against Iain Sydie, who was also
returning to singles play after an eight month absence due to injury.
Milaine Cloutier, the number two seed in Ladies' singles and doubles was
forced out of the tournament when she went down with a knee injury in the
first round. 
She was trailing Charmaine Reid 6-4 in the third game when she went for an
around the head shot and her knee gave out. An injury that seems to hit
Canadian  female players from Quebec in particular.
